Overgrowth

The mind grows. It swells, fights with itself, struggles to be still. And when the thoughts in it can no longer be contained, they spill forth every which way. You can't quiet it. So you might as well embrace it.

Overgrowth, the first-ever collaboration from Musubi and Leigh Reyes, is a series of five, unique hand-painted diaries themed around the idea of an overflowing mind. Together, the five pieces explore the way ideas form, interlink and solidify in the crucible of one's head.

Each piece is hand-painted in a Peruvian Shipibo-Conibo diary from the atelier. You are purchasing an original work and no prints will be issued — each artwork is unique and will never be released again.

The artist: Leigh Reyes

Overgrowth features the work of the inimitable Leigh Reyes.

An award-winning creative by day, Leigh's ethos is that everyone can be encouraged to create using pens, ink and paper. Her art is often multi-layered in both the physical and emotional sense, combining written text, ethereal washes, and use of colour and negative space. You can see more of her work on her Instagram.

The charity: Autism Resource Centre

Through its Made for Good programme, the atelier invites artists to collaborate on a variety of special edition releases for charity.

100% of the profits from this release will be donated to the Autism Resource Centre in Singapore, in support of Pathlight School — an educational institution that runs curriculums for autistic students aged seven to 18.

Your money will go towards funding educational programmes that help students with autism integrate into the larger society around them. Learn more here and here.

My Mind is a Holloway

My thoughts carve tracks in my mind as they pass. Some are worn smooth from the constant throughput; others lie overgrown from disuse.

I do not begrudge the disused tracks. Often they are the spaces in which I can breathe.

Duplicit/Complicit

What do I do when I feel one way and think another?

What We Desire To Be Testimony After Us

The things I say and the things I do bleed forth into — and change — the world around me.

I am my own testimony. My deeds echo beyond the tiny space I occupy in a single lifetime.

The Wildflowers in My Braincase

Some might call these stray thoughts weeds. I think they are beautiful all the same.

We Grow We Dream We Forget We Live

As I sleep, my mind floods.

I don't always remember everything that surfaces, but I swim into empty anyway.

Socially conscious craftsmanship

Every Musubi journal is handbound in Singapore by a team of artisans with physical and intellectual disabilities. Your purchase funds employment opportunities for these talented individuals.

Gift packaging included

Every diary comes ready to gift, packaged in a Musubi box with a certificate hand-signed by our team of artisans with disabilities. The certificate doubles as a bookmark and has a grid guide sheet printed on its reverse side.

This release also includes a card bearing a message from the atelier and the artist.
